This is the end!

It's with a heavy heart that I announce the end of Gadgetboyz.net.  I want to thank those of you who have been with me since that first podcast in 2005!  We started with the podcast and then morphed into a review website covering DVD's Blu-ray's and various products.  It's been a great 5 years, boy does the time go fast.  If you're wondering why I have decided to close the website, there are two reasons.  The first is Google's decision to not support FTP publishing with Blogger.  It would be a massive job to transfer all the reviews to the new format.  The second reason is, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to keep up with the reviews by myself and I am finding I am having less time to do anything.  So it's goodbye for now!  But you can still follow me on twitter.com/Evilpenguinj.  I also have www.evilpenguinj.com, which I plan to do something with in the future, currently it's a movie trailer website.  Also I have turned the comments on, so feel free to say hello!

Mini Movie Review: Clash of the Titans

Hi Everyone

A friend and I were at AMC cinemas last night to catch an advanced screening of Clash of the Titans in 3D.  First here is what my friend Kyle thought of the film:

Ralph Fiennes needs to be careful that he isn’t type cast as cool villains in blockbuster fantasy flicks. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing. Fiennes performance as lord of the underworld Hades was one of the best parts of this film. As a big action blockbuster, Clash was completely adequate, full of cool CGI monsters and locales, that entertained from beginning to end. Where it fell down was a plot that was muddled and difficult to follow, and two-dimensional characters whose motivations for doing anything seemed confusing.

The 3D effects seemed mostly pointless, often distracting from the action on screen, rather than enhancing it. See the 2D version instead. I’m sure this will be a fun film to watch at home on Blu-ray.


I agree with everything Kyle has said.  For me the 3D which was a last minute decision by the studio was just not worth it!  I thought the movie was fun, with its giant creatures and well designed CG.  I am sure the movie will make a lot of money, but the decision not to shoot thins in 3D was not a good one.  See it in 2D and you will save yourself some money in the process!
