Snapchat Spectacles have a brand new 3D feature mode. Now, the “ghostly” social media announced that the new 3D Camera Mode will be available at main platforms.
Snapchat announced that 3D Camera Mode will allow users to create and share images with depth effects similar to dioramas that move when you tilt your phone. 3D Camera Mode is available starting today for iPhone X users and above through the Snapchat application update.
Citing Tech Crunch, Thursday (19/09/2019), 3D Camera Mode can be accessed using the drop-down menu on the right. The images can also be seen on older cellphone models and others, including Android.
Along with 3D Camera Mode, users who create images will also be given a library of 3D effects, lenses, and filters. User-created images can also be saved to camera roll for users to post on other social media.
The 3D feature is a big step up for Snapchat that faces a challenging battle with Facebook and Instagram. Although, Instagram and Facebook had followed a popular feature in Snapchat in the past, one of which is Stories.
Instagram itself is now one of the most widely used social media in the world. Instagram has daily active users of 500 million while Snapchat has only 203 million.
Apart from that, the presence of 3D photos to social media is actually not the first. In 2018, Facebook has launched AI-based 3D images.
But until now Facebook has never expanded it to Instagram. With the presence of 3D on Snapchat, it is not impossible that the social networking giant made by Mark Zuckerberg will also bring it to Instagram.
