7 Stalkerware: Introduction
Avast antivirus company has recently found seven malicious applications that had circulated on the Play Store and searched for victims among Android users.
What is a Stalkerware?
According to Avast’s research, the seven applications fall into the category of “stalker” software or stalkerware. This type of malicious program can track and peek sensitive information from the user’s cellphone, such as location data, contact list, SMS content, and call history. Similar to a Spyware.
In fact, if the phone is rooted, seven applications that were developed from one Russian developer can also intercept messages sent via WhatsApp. Personal data from mobile phones is sent to the application maker via e-mail.
Fortunately, Avast reported its findings to Google which then deleted the seven related applications. A total of four applications were deleted by Google on Tuesday this week, then the remainder was deleted on Wednesday.
“This application promotes criminal behavior and can be misused. We can identify these applications quickly and work with Google to delete them,” said Nikolaos Chrysaidos, Head of Avast Mobile Security

Stalkerware applications above had been downloaded 130,000 times before finally being deleted by Google.
