Arianne Jimenez shares tips or effective steps to maintain the security on social media.
1. Use different and strong keywords
Try not to use the same password for multiple accounts in cyberspace, including email and social media. Make keywords at least six characters long and difficult to guess, don’t use names or identities.
Facebook advise to use a combination of numbers, letters and punctuation. After that, never share keywords with anyone.
2. Check the site address
Take the time to check the URL site that will be opened, cybercriminals often create fake websites with addresses similar to the official site
3. Don’t be lazy ‘Log Out’
Always log out every time you finish using Facebook, especially if you are using a shared computer. If you forget or are not sure that you have logged out, the user can log out remotely through the security settings in the Settings feature.
Select the “where you have logged in” option and click “exit” to log out of Facebook on the unused device.
4. Be selective
If you are unsure, do not accept friend requests from strangers. Perpetrators of internet crimes often create fake accounts to befriend victims.
5. Be aware of the software.
Update your browser regularly and delete suspicious applications.
6. Don’t just click
Even if you receive a link or a link from a friend, don’t click if you feel the link is suspicious.
7. Use additional security features
Enable two-step verification, two-factor authentication to log in to Facebook. After activating this feature, the users will get additional verification when logging in, for example in the form of a code sent via SMS.
