Facebook is preparing a new tab for news. The platform has also confirmed this.
Reported by the Digital Trends page, Facebook has approached a number of publishers. Such as ABC News, Dow Jones, The Washington Post, and Bloomberg.
Rumors are circulating, that Facebook offers US$ 3 million per year in exchange for their news content. But it is unclear whether the offer is for one media or shared for the whole media.
But this concept also marks a change from the payment model made by Facebook’s Instant Articles. That feature will offer the publishers with reduced income with advertisements displayed on the news tab.
This new tab will allow the media outlets to decide how many articles will be displayed on the site.
This means that there will be a full selection of the news or only a short title and preview with additional links.
This feature is expected to be launched soon. It seems that Facebook wants to overcome criticism because it absorbs advertising income from media outlets.
The same criticism has also been addressed to Google. The two online giant companies attracted 60% of digital advertising income in the US in 2018.
