5G iPhone seems to be the ambition of Apple recently. Unfortunately, Apple cannot realize their ambition on their own, they need a capable chip to support the availability of the iPhone with 5G feature.
Apple is now eyeing Intel chip manufacturers and rumored to be acquiring the Intel modem business worth US $1 billion.
Apple Efforts to make 5G iPhones
Reported by Techradar, Tuesday (07/23/2019), an article from the Wall Street Journal claimed that the Cupertino technology giant was in a “ongoing conversation” to buy the Intel modem chip division. This was revealed “according to people who know this problem”.
If the purchase finalizes, Apple will start its own business to research 5G technology, obtain staff, patents, and research worth USD1 billion obtained by Intel for a decade.

Even though the first wave of iPhone 5G will likely use the established Qualcomm technology, the acquisition of Intel’s modem division by Apple could make iPhone manufacturers more independent.
Apple has taken control over components for years that makes up its flagship product. Companies tends to avoid involvement and becoming dependant to outsiders, for example in graphics chips inside the iPhone and iPad, all rumors point to Apple designing their own ARM-based processors for Mac products.
