Welcome back, HTC!
HTC hasn’t released a single smartphone this year, but that doesn’t mean the company has given up. The company insists it is not leaving the smartphone market.
Reported by GSMArena, Wednesday (09/10/2019), The CEO, Yves Maitres, said they have not given up on the smartphone business. He revealed, the company will return to the high-end smartphone market when the time is right.
Meanwhile, HTC will focus on markets with high Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rather than competing in developing countries. they in the last two years reportedly only released two handsets in the middle and high-end segments.
Furthermore, Yves explained the reason they were lagging far behind other smartphone vendors including Apple, Samsung, and Oppo.
According to him, they stopped investing in research and development for a long time. Instead, the company is currently focusing on the Virtual Reality (VR) business.
At the same time, competitors such as Samsung and Huawei continue to invest in hardware and software innovations. This investment is one of the drivers of sales figures for the two companies to increase.
