Camera sensors with Bayer Quad filter technology on smartphones continue to grow. Late last year, phones with 48 MP cameras were introduced, and this week Realme and Redmi launched a 64MP camera.
Samsung did not want to be a loser. They are ready to launch a camera phone with 108 MP.
Samsung‘s camera division will launch with 108 MP sensor on this Monday, August 12, 2019. Previously, this large-sized camera was planned to launch in 2020, but the plan seemed to be accelerated.
A few days ago, a famous informer spread slides from the internal presentation, telling us that Xiaomi will use this Samsung ISOCELL sensor in Mi Mix 4.
If Xiaomi sticks to the planned launch of the Mi X4, the first phone with a 108 MP sensor will appear this year, at least in China. It is unclear which sensor size will be used, but Samsung will reveal all the details of its new camera on this Monday.
The 108 MP camera will shoot normally at 27MP resolution, using pixel binning.
It is not clear if you can actually take 108 MP photos (with a resolution of 12032×9024), maybe through the Pro mode on the camera app.
But so far, the Bayer Quad sensor has been designed to capture 1/4 of their original resolution, by changing 4 pixels to 1 pixel for extra detail.
