Vertical Foldable Screen: A New Challenger to the Foldable Screen Scene
Foldable phones have recently become a new innovative trend for mobile phone companies, as evidenced by Samsung, Xiaomi and even the tech giant Google. Well, it seems that ‘Sharp’ is also interested in enlivening the trend.
In a recent video that was spread on the internet, ‘Sharp’ showed off a foldable cellphone prototype. Instead of folding outwards vertically, this foldable phone from ‘Sharp’ displayed vertical inward folds much like the classic Japanese flip style cellular phone.
The Screen Specifications
The screen in question is said to measure 6.18 inches with a resolution of 1,440 x 3,040 pixels. ‘Sharp’ claims the screen can hold up to 300,000 folding cycles which should suffice for average users.
As quoted from Ubergizmo on Friday (4/12/2019), ‘Sharp’ has indicate their interest in commercializing foldable devices in the future. But it is not clear whether the Japanese based company will supply screen technology to other company or make their own smartphones.
‘Sharp’s prototype is reminiscent of reports that Motorola revived the Razr clamshell phone that was popular a few years ago but with the added portability and larger screen ratio.
