Google added new capabilities to the Assistant. Users can now turn off speech that comes out of Google Assistant.
Disabling Google Assistant speech will not affect the answers that can be obtained from the Assistant. You will see a response on the cellphone, but the Assistant won’t read it aloud.

Turn off the Google Assistant pronunciation, you only need to touch and hold the home button on an Android device. You can also say ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ to wake the Assistant.
When the Assistant box appears from the bottom, tap the compass icon at the bottom right of the screen. After that, tap the profile picture or initials in the lower right corner of the screen.
Go to Settings then to Assistant. From there, go to Phone then Voice and Speech. Tap Speech Output and a box will appear with two options.
To close the Google Assistant unlock, select Hands-free only. Meanwhile, to get the Google Assistant voice back, follow the instructions above again and when you get the last box, select On.
