Google removed two Android applications that were installed more than 1.5 million times. Because the application runs pop-up ads that can harm Android users.
Cybersecurity company Wandera discovered the Sun Pro Beauty Camera application and Funny Sweet Beauty Selfie Camera containing adware and potentially damaging users.
“Adware is usually seen as a nuisance to end-users. However, mobile adware can kill productivity which leads to more serious impacts on business. Unattractive advertisements outside the application interrupt users in the middle of their workflows, shutting down devices, draining device batteries, and in some cases, the infected device needs to be replaced, “Wandera said as quoted by Phone Arena, Saturday (9/21/2019).
How this Adware works
If you install one of the beauty camera applications that have been mentioned, you should immediately uninstall now. Like a malicious application, after installing the icon will disappear from the app drawer when the shortcut is created.
Even if you delete the shortcut, the application still shows ads in the background. Once installed, Sun Pro Beauty Camera works to close full-screen advertisements even if the application does not open. Funny Sweet Beauty Selfie Camera also displays full-screen advertisements, but only after filtered photos are downloaded using the application.
As always, comments left on the second list of apps on the Play Store provide early warning to Android users. One reviewer said, ‘Trash. Please do not download this application. This is just advertising, that’s all, nothing else. ‘
Wandera reported the application to Google on September 11. Responding to reports from Wandera, the internet search engine giant removed the two applications from the Play Store.
