As a form of safety management, Garuda Indonesia prohibits MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch into their aircrafts
Garuda Indonesia recently issued a regulation that prohibits a certain series of MacBook Pro into the airplane. Whether it in the cabin, luggage or cargo. This was stated after the withdrawal policy of MacBook Pro products (Retina 15 -Inch) by Apple. This is a form of anticipation and safety management on Garuda Indonesia flight services.
Garuda issued the regulation after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and regulations from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (Special Provisions A154) issued a regulation related to a ban on carrying MacBook Pro (Retina 15-Inch) following the discovery of problems with the laptop batteries that have the potential to cause interference with aspects of aviation safety.
Not only Garuda has imposed the regulation. Since the news of MacBook Pro’s flight ban was spread, almost all airlines from all over the world have announced that they will not allow MacBook Pro on their flights.
All major US airlines have banned MacBook Pro who entered into the recall list from Apple to enter the plane following the instructions from the FAA.
Previously the same incident was also experienced by Samsung in 2017, where their smartphone product, the Samsung Note 7 experienced a similar problem that made Samsung pull their products back from the market related to the issue of explosive batteries.
At this time, Garuda prohibits carrying MacBook devices with certain serial numbers that were sold in the period of September 2015 and February 2017. Garuda Indonesia continues to coordinate with the regulators and other stakeholders to follow up on the ban on bringing the laptop device until further development.
