Gloomy weather keeps shadowing the world’s second-biggest vendor, Huawei, after heavy punishment from USA President, Donald Trump. However, one thing that we can learn, Huawei actually has internally prepared to do exodus from its USA partner and other spare parts supplier.
We are not only talking about 90 days or 12 months’ preparation because someone with the top position on the company has reported making surprising news during a detailed unusual discussion with the editor of TechRadar.
Turn out that, “homebrewed” cellular operating system that is used by Huawei to replace Android on their future products is ready enough to be used. They even tailed after its global release by the beginning of next month.
Huawei conversion: An Unwanted Plan B
Internally known as HongMeng, it seems to be a metaphor from the “prehistoric world, prehistoric chaos” in Chinese genesis myth. That software platform that will replace Android will be officially named as “Ark OS“.
Meanwhile, Alaa Elshimy, Middle East Managing Director and Vice President Huawei Enterprise Business Group, has no statement to make regarding this matter. The statement offers an opinion that never happened before behind the development of OS that mostly remains mysterious.
The interesting part is, Elshimy stated, this operating system has ready for almost one and a half years ago since January 2018 to be exact.
Huawei started this project, as a backup plan in case there will be an opinion different from the company side and Google by any means. It is just that the company does not actually want this to go public in the market.
Regarding the fact that their relationship with Google is getting worse, he stated, now there will be no reason to feel doubt in releasing Ark OS. Its release is scheduled to be held around June, even if most of its detail and specifications remain unclear.
What we know is that this new platform should support not only the smartphone, but also the tablet, the computer, the car connected to it, the smartwatch, the activity tracker, and many others.
Can Huawei survive by themselves?
If you ask a global analyst, then they will be on same page that the company continuity is at stake. However, if you ask Huawei then the only question mark is how much this company can keep growing from this.
Aside from HongMeng or Ark OS, Huawei plans to release itself from their dependence on some products and technology made by the USA. Not partly, internal products will replace all of them.
One of the examples is that Huawei AppGallery that surprisingly will substitute the position of Play Store. And the promise is “all application that works with Android” finally will support the new OS.
This is really an ambitious aim, which is hardly perceived in reality than in its conceptual theory. However, application developer that has its base in the USA can be prohibited to do business with the technology giant that is in war with China.
Alaa Elshimy also claims that USA punishment will not affect company chipset whatsoever. The argument is that Huawei is independent in so many aspects.
One thing, it remains unclear what can Huawei do to decrease their dependency on Arm, an English chip developer that seems to use USA original technology.
As long as it is related to WiFi, Bluetooth, and sim card support, Huawei stated that its users do not have to be the part of each alliance that determines standards for those three products along with features derivatives.
In other words, whether it is allowed or not for Huawei to run on Android, their future smartphone should offer zero issues WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
