An Exclusive The Outer World through potential sequel?
The thing that The Outer Worlds PC version was put as a temporary exclusive game at Epic Store is not quite disappointing for Microsoft. As a publisher who has officially acquired Obsidian Entertainment, they seem to be even more unwilling to see this descendant of Fallout released on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. That’s that the Microsoft Studio Chief, Matt Booty, hints.
In an interview with Game Informer, he expressed admiration mixed with jealousy while talking about The Outer Worlds. Arguably jealous because the game’s publishing rights currently are in the hands of the Private Division (a Take-two subsidiary). It seems Booty wants to take at least a gap to grab the game’s ownership.
From what we have seen in The Outer Worlds, I was hoping that we can preserve the game franchise. In fact, it was my dream to grow it into a really big game franchise. The world they (Obsidian) created in that game was extraordinary. And I really think how the Outer Worlds can be more defended and constantly remembered by the players. Either that by adding narration, character and more additional world. -Matt Booty, the Xbox Game Studio Chief-
From the statement above, Booty hint that he had planned to fully facilitate the Obsidian in designing sequels for The Outer Worlds. However, Xbox Game Studios is currently having them working on a classified project.
If the IP of The Outer Worlds Successfully fell into Microsoft, It can be said that this is pretty encouraging news for fans on Steam and instead it could even be mourning for PS4 and Switch users. Because the 100% exclusive power of Epic Games Store will not work against Microsoft’s games.
As we already know, Microsoft itself has a fairly intimate relationship with Steam in distributing digital games. While on a separate occasion, The Outer World is scheduled to be released on October 25, 2019, on the PC platform (via Epic Games Store), PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
