RPG turn-based battle system for Yakuza 7 gameplay?
Although the existence of Yakuza 7 has been confirmed together with the announcement of Yakuza Online a few months ago, on August 29, Studio Ryu ga Gotoku and SEGA officially announced their latest Yakuza main series, titled Yakuza 7 Whereabouts of Light and Darkness.
Those who have followed the Yakuza game series may already know that the story of Kazuma Kiryu has been completed in Yakuza 6: Song of Life. This time, Ichiban Kasuga, who first appeared in Yakuza Online, will also be the main protagonist in Yakuza 7. Not only that, the setting for the game is no longer in Kamurocho, but in Yokohama.
Through a press conference with the developer, there is one thing that is quite interesting to the attention of Yakuza 7. The battle system is no longer a direct brute force like the previous Yakuza series but now uses a command-based RPG game system. The creator of the Yakuza game, Toshihiro Nagoshi, stated that he hoped fans could accept this change, and did not rule out the possibility that the next game might return to focus on Action depending on the fans’ feedback.
As we know, a few months ago the developer also released a trailer related to the RPG-style battle system which was allegedly just an April Fool’s joke. But it seems that the system will become a reality in this Yakuza 7. Here’s a video of the appearance of a command-based system from the April Fool’s video a few months ago.
Furthermore, Yakuza 7 will be released sooner on January 16, 2020, but for Japan, China and South Korea regions first. The English version itself will be released in the same year, although there is no exact date yet. Along with this, the developer has also released an official website that you can check on this page.
This is also considering that SEGA has recently announced a remastered version from Yakuza 3 to Yakuza 5 for the western version which was released on PS4. Currently, Yakuza 3 itself can be played, while Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 will follow in the next few months.
