Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) created robotic threads that can be used to treat blockages and clots in the brain. Blockages and clots in the brain can risk stroke and aneurysm.
How The Thread Work
Reporting from the page NS Medical Device, Monday (2/9/2019) robotic thread that looks like a worm is able to travel through the blood vessels of the brain. The thread will later channel the drug for clotting and treat the blockage. This thread is rumored to be controlled by a magnet that allows doctors and surgeons to guide remotely from any location.
A mechanical engineering professor at Seoul National University, Kyujin Cho said: “One of the challenges in surgery is to be able to navigate through complicated blood vessels in the brain, which have very small diameters, where commercial catheters cannot reach.”

“This research has shown the potential to overcome this challenge and allow surgical procedures in the brain without open surgery,” Cho added.
This medication is also claimed to be a safer alternative for treating blood clots. To note, stroke is one of the five main causes of death, but if an acute stroke can be treated within ninety minutes after it occurs, the survival rate increases significantly.
